From the primordial wilderness of northern Alberta and rugged mountains of the Rockies to the rich farmlands and ranches of the prairies, the multifaceted landscapes of Alberta present endless material to work with. Each scene imparts an emotional sentiment, due in part to the drama of our ever-changing weather systems.
There is a spiritual connection that happens when painting or experiencing a landscape on location. To understand the land one has to be part of it. Donna connects with the land through painting on location, sketching and doing small watercolors on backpacking hikes or a combination of photography and watercolors. Donna attempts to communicate her interpretation of the land and emotionally connect the spirituality of that experience to her viewer.
Using acrylic paint, her canvases are done energetically to expressively capture the emotion and majesty of the Alberta experience.
